Beneficial effects of a combination of natural product activators of autophagy on endothelial cells and platelets

Background and Purpose Oxidative stress insufficient autophagy activity are associated with inflammatory processes common features of many cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). We investigated if a combination natural activators could modulate oxidative stress, platelet aggregation endothelial cell survival function in response to stress. Experimental Approach Ex vivo activation, H 2 O production were measured platelets subjects at high risk, including smokers, patients metabolic syndrome (MetS) atrial fibrillation (AF). In vitro, the effects mixture pro‐autophagy molecules antioxidants on human umbilical vein cells (HUVECs) evaluated. Key Result Autophagy appeared be inhibited, whereas was increased from AF MetS as compared healthy subjects. Treatment isolated these composed trehalose, spermidine, catechin epicatechin (Mix1) or spermidine nicotinamide (Mix2), significantly reduced activation autophagy, effect each compound alone. Similarly, treatment HUVECs compounds exhibited beneficial survival, nitric oxide bioavailability angiogenesis potentiated manner.
